Arbitration proceedings in Algeria are governed by articles 1006 through 1061 of the Algerian Code of Civil and Administrative Procedure Law No 08-09 of February 25 2008, entered into force on February 25 2009 (Published in the official gazette No. 21 on 23 April 2008).
These rules are relatively drafted by considering modern rules of arbitration, particularly the UNCITRAL (United Nations Commission for International Trade Law) Model Law and the European Convention on Arbitration of 1961.
Previously, arbitration was governed by Decree No. 93-09 of April 25, 1993, based on the French Arbitration Law of 1981 and the Swiss Private International Law of 1987.

Algeria has been a member of the New York Convention since June 10, 1958, on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards since 1988.
