2016

The first AIA meeting in Doha was held on 27 February 2016 in The Ritz Carlton hotel (Doha, Qatar). Prominent arbitrators and ADR specialists from Qatar and the UAE have attended the reception as well as the lunch in La Mer restaurant in The Ritz Carlton hotel.

We would like to thank those who attended the Arab and International Arbitrators’ (AIA) luncheon at the W Hotel-Doha (Qatar).

Special thanks also to the luncheon sponsors:  (i) Sultan Al-Abdulla &Partners; (ii) McNair Chambers; and (iii) Qatar University—College of Law. We are grateful for their support.

The gathering afforded delegates a wonderful opportunity to network and discuss important issues in international commercial arbitration. Our speakers spawned a lot of the most interesting discussion:

1.      Mr. Sultan M. Al-Abdulla, Managing Partner of Sultan Al-Abdulla & Partners-Doha

Overview of the Arbitration Landscape in Qatar

2.      Khawar Qureshi QC, Managing Partner of McNair Chambers LLC-Doha

Promoting Transparency & Diversity on the Arbitral Tribunal

3.      Prof. Francis Nii Nuertey Botchwell of Qatar University, College of Law

Whether International Arbitration is a better mode of dispute resolution than Litigation

The follow-on discussion and Q&A addressed issues confronted by arbitrators nowadays, such as jurisdiction, arbitrator qualifications, and gender related questions--including how the AIA network may be able to positively impact these matters via further initiatives and programs.

We look forward to seeing all of you at the next AIA gathering in Doha in April.

Jointly sponsored by:
